Playtime and Snacks

Our Vision for Playtimes at Hangleton

At Hangleton we believe that all children have the right to fun, safe and inclusive playtimes. We are developing a play culture that nurtures and supports our pupils to feel confident and stimulated when in the playground. The playground is a busy place, and we understand that this can be challenging for some young people. For this reason, we have our Year Six Play Leaders to guide and support the children with their play.

Through donations from the PFA we have carefully introduced new equipment to excite the children and keep them engaged. We have regular assemblies that celebrate our successes, introduce new equipment, establish the rules and responsibilities involved in using it safely, and to problem-solve any issues that may have arisen during playtimes. The impact has already been a joy to see; happier playtimes with fewer incidents. On Wednesdays, we open the gates to both the infant and junior playgrounds, allowing children to socialise with siblings and friends across the school.

We look forward to warmer weather when we can make full use of our grounds.

Healthy Snacks

Picture1

In KS1, an item of seasonal fruit or vegetagles is supplied for the children daily by the School Fruit and Vegetable Scheme run by the Department for Education – we do not choose what is offered but all children are welcome to bring to school a healthy breaktime snack to help fuel their learning.

We have attached a list of appropriate school snacks to give you some guidance. Please ensure that your child does not have chocolate or crisps as a breaktime snack, and as always, nothing containing nuts.

NHS suggested healthy snacks for breaktime:

  • Oat cakes
  • Lower-fat, lower-sugar fromage frais
  • Plain rice cakes or crackers
  • Sugar-free jelly
  • Crumpet
  • Scotch pancake
  • Piece of fruit
  • Vegetable such as carrot, cucumber, celery, cherry tomatoes.

Emergency Closure

In the hopefully unlikely event of having to close the school, you will receive text alerts/emails with up-to-date information and any specific advice or instructions.

Please also listen for information and announcements on Heart FM radio.

Information will also be posted on the home page of our school's website and also on Brighton and Hove Council's website.

We advise against ringing school as, depending on the closure circumstances, there may be no one present to take your call and/or the lines could easily become jammed with an excessive volume of incoming calls.
